European Commission Communication on Business Taxation for the 21st century

On 18 May 2021, the European Commission (“EC”) published the long-awaited Communication on Business Taxation for the 21st Century (the “Communication”). The Communication provides a roadmap with short- and long-term initiatives to address perceived problems in business taxation in the European Union (“EU”). The Communication is highly ambitious and shows the EC in no way intends to slow down its efforts of creating a more level playing field within the EU, increasing its own influence and authority, and tightening the corporate tax environment along the way.
